Meet the Library Staff
I love being the Library Media Specialist here at YMS! I received my Master's degree in Library and Information Science from Florida State University in 2014 and shortly after joined the faculty here in York. The library is an exciting place to work and I enjoy getting to know all of the students as they move up through each grade. I live in Saco with my husband and our greyhound, Hazel. In my free time I enjoy going to the beach, playing board games, traveling, and of course, reading. Some of my favorite novels are The Evolution of Calpurnia Tate, Jane Eyre, and the Harry Potter series. I also have a fondness for picture books, particularly the wordless kind.
I received my Master’s degree in Children’s Literature from Simmons College in 2012, and began working in the Linda Shaw Masella Library the following school year. I enjoy working with middle school students, and I feel fortunate to work in a position that allows me to continue to explore my love of children’s literature. I live in Milton, New Hampshire with my husband. When I am not working at YMS, I enjoy reading, traveling, and working on many craft projects.
Ramona the Reading Rabbit joined the library staff in 2013. She was born right here in York Middle School in a fifth grade classroom, and has been happy to remain in the community. Aside from her name, which honors Beverly Clearyʼs lovable, mischievous character, her breed is a Mini Rex, which are often referred to as Velveteen rabbits. Library service was a natural role for her, and she enjoys keeping students company as they read.
Alabama joined Ramona in her reading companion service in 2014. He also enjoys the love and attention that YMS students show him on a daily basis. “Can I read with the bunnies?” is perhaps the most popular request heard in the library.
