Winter 1 and Winter 2 Athletics Descriptions

The Winter 1 athletics season begins Nov 1st and runs through January 31st. The Winter 2 season begins Feb1st and runs through March 31st. Basketball takes place during winter 1. Wrestling and Volleyball happen during winter 2.

Basketball- Winter Season 1

Basketball is open to boys and girls in the 7th and 8th grade. Typically we hold tryouts for 3 days during the first week in November. If numbers permit, we will have a 7th girls, 7th boys, 8th girls and 8th boys team. Not all students who try out will make the team. In the case of low participation, we will combine the 7th and 8th grade teams. Athletes playing basketball will need to have basketball sneakers and a water bottle. This year, students will be required to wear masks during practices and games. Practice will be held daily, after school or in the evening at the York Middle School Gym. Once the season begins, teams will have 2 games per week.

Volleyball- Winter Season 2

Volleyball is open to girls in 7th and 8th grade. This is a introductory program, designed to teach the fundamentals of the game. All students who sign up can participate. There are no cuts for this program. Practices are daily after school with 5 or 6 matches scheduled throughout the season. Students will need to purchase knee pads for this program and have the options of purchasing a York Volleyball T-shirt for game play.

Wrestling- Winter Season 2

Wrestling is open to boys and girls in 6th, 7th, and 8th grade. This is a introductory program, designed to teach the fundamentals of the sport. The status of the 2022 wrestling season is unclear due to COVID. Please check back for updates.
