Two YMS students, Jaspar Bloomer and Cooper Woods, along with high school students, won first place in the Brilliant Blue Planet competition for the Marine Autonomous Systems Theme. The Lobster Bots' project, the NEPTUNE Drifter—a solar-powered, autonomous sensor platform for real-time environmental and maritime security monitoring—captured the attention of judges. The students presented from Bigelow Ocean Research institute for two days last week and made many great connections in the ocean sciences. This achievement has been celebrated widely, including a special recognition at a recent Manufacturers Association of Maine annual Fall meeting, where industry leaders applauded their innovative work. It’s impressive, and we are proud of our YMS’ers along with the rest of the team!
