YMS 6th-8th band students were treated to a workshop and performance by the band the Soggy Po Boys recently! The band did a presentation on the history of the music of New Orleans Jazz, tracing it from its earliest roots as the original American music. The workshop culminated with a performance that included a few YMS students, who were well prepared and impressed the band! There was even some dancing involved! We are incredibly grateful for the opportunity to have a close up and inspiring experience with such a popular and professional band. If you haven’t seen them perform their New Orleans jazz in the region, make the effort!
Thanks abound for making this event happen - the performance and workshop was funded in part by the New England States Touring program of the New England Foundation for the Arts, made possible with funding from the National Endowment for the Arts Regional Touring Program and the six New England state arts agencies. We also give a special thanks to the Kittery Dance Hall and their Artistic Director, Eric Klaxton as well as our own Band Director Jimi Neel for coordinating the event.
