Robotics
The Robotics Team is open to students in grades 7 and 8. The students meet after school periodically throughout the year and have regular competitions. This club is combined with the York High School team, so they practice with the older students.
Yearbook
The Yearbook Club is open to all students in grades 7 and 8. The students meet biweekly after school throughout the year.
Student Council
Student Council is open to students in 5th through 8th grade. The students meet during recess or lunch throughout the year as issues come up.
Interact Club
Interact is affiliated with the Rotary Club and is open to all students in grades 5 - 8. The club meets every other week and is focused on community service and other projects. "Interacters" are also invited to the Rotary Club breakfast once per month!
Jazz Band
Is open to all students in grades 6, 7 and 8. Tryouts are usually held in early to mid-September. Students who make the jazz band roster will have practices once a week after school or during the evening, with concerts seasonally. There is also a jazz band competition that the students will travel to in the springtime.
YMS Drama Club
The Drama Club is open to all students in grades 5, 6, 7 and 8. Rehearsals are held after school once tryouts are completed for individual roles. The final performance is usually held in the auditorium at York Community Auditorium. The school musical usually starts in late fall and runs into the spring.
Odyssey of the Mind
"OM" is open to students in grades 5-8. If your student enjoys being creative, they should check out Odyssey of the Mind. This is a great creative problem-solving competition and lots of fun! Teams usually meet once a week in the afternoon or evening. Teams are given cognitive challenges and asked to solve these problems in a creative, cooperative way. This program culminates in local and national/world competitions. Odyssey of the Mind starts in October and runs until early spring.
Other Clubs
Other clubs can pop up during the school year—recent offerings are Dungeons & Dragons and Creative Writing. We will make every effort to put these options on the school calendar!
