In 8th grade science, students take on the role of parents by pairing up to flip coins to determine an offspring's traits. Each parent donates half of the DNA, either a dominant gene or a recessive gene They are combined to form a specific trait. Students use those traits with a visual key of traits to draw their offspring.

The seventh grade celebrated the end of their Poetic Voices unit with a poetry slam. Throughout the unit, students studied a variety of poetic forms and developed their own voice and style. Students from each ELA class were nominated by their peers and teachers, and 19 students performed a variety of published and original poetry in a community poetry slam. Students explored topics such as friendship, sports, mental health, and growing up. We’re really proud of the effort, vulnerability, risk-taking, trust and bravery that students demonstrated throughout this unit! On top of all that, we’re so proud of how students showed compassion and empathy by supporting each other along the way!
Be sure to catch the YMS musical Annie before the snow flies! Shows at the York Community Auditorium on Thursday and Friday at 7pm. Our Saturday show is CANCELED due to the incoming snow. Come support the YMS Drama Club!
Congratulations to Max Hunter, Devin Conte, and Owen Summers! They won the Maine state middle school robotics competition last Saturday in Portland and they have qualified to participate in the VEX Worlds competition in Dallas,Texas. Great job!
